Ideas for Home Gardening

gardening tips at home

Here are some gardening suggestions for the home. Upcycle old teapots or tires into planters, create terrariums using macrame, or make a hanging succulent garden. And if you don't have a green thumb, you can even make your own terrarium! The possibilities are limitless! Just get creative! If you want to create a unique hanging garden, you can even use old tires, too. You can spray them with aqua blue paint and hang them from curtain rods.

Turn old tires into a planter

It is possible to make a planter out of old tires by stacking several of them and painting them in contrasting shades. You can paint your tires any color you like, or pick a color that contrasts well with the surroundings. This will make the planter more cohesive and blend in with the design. You can fill your planter with annual flowers, or flowering perennials depending on what you prefer.

Repurpose teapots from the past

You can make a planter out of an old teapot you have lying around. You can use pretty porcelain to make it with a flower motif. Or you can look for vintage metal watering cups that will work well with plants. Simply drill holes in the bottom of the container and fill it with potting soil. After a few weeks you'll be able see how the planter looks and functions.

Macrame can be used to create terrariums

Macrame can be used to create terrariums for your garden. Macrame is affordable and simple to use. The unique look of macrame makes it an ideal choice for modern indoor spaces or outdoor spaces. Your new creation can be decorated in any way you want. If you're not a gardener, you can use macrame to make hanging terrariums for your plants.

A hanging succulent garden is possible

Hanging succulent gardens are a good idea for small spaces like a balcony or patio. These plants are very easy to maintain. The plants should be watered at least once per week. For extra energy, you could submerge them under water until their roots sink. You can then add organic liquid kelp, or cactus food to the water after it has drained. You should let the water run off the bottom.

Make your own insecticide

For your garden's bug spray, you can simply combine garlic, one small onion, cayenne pepper and powder. Allow the mixture to steep for at least an hour. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer. Apply to the underside and upper surfaces of the leaves. It will stay effective for upto a week. Always test the plant in a small area before you use it in your garden.

FAQ

What should you do first when you start a garden?

The first step to starting a garden is to prepare it. This includes adding organic material such as composted horse manure, grass clippings or leaves, straw and the like, which provides plant nutrients. Next, you will plant your seeds or seedlings directly into the prepared holes. Finally, water thoroughly.

When can you plant flowers in your garden?

When the weather is milder and the soil has a good moisture content, spring is the best time to plant flowers. If you live outside of a warm climate, it is best not to plant flowers until the first frost. The ideal temperature to grow plants indoors is 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

What vegetables do you recommend growing together?

The combination of tomatoes and peppers is great because they love the same temperatures and soil conditions. They work well together as tomatoes need heat to ripen and peppers need lower temperatures for optimal flavor. Start seeds indoors approximately six weeks prior to planting. Once the weather warms up, transplant the tomato and pepper plants outdoors.

Are pots possible to grow fruit trees?

Yes! If you have limited space, fruit trees can be grown indoors. You should make sure that your pot has drainage holes to keep excess moisture from rotting the tree. Also ensure that the pot is large enough to accommodate the root ball. This will keep the tree from becoming stressed.

How To

Organic fertilizers for garden use

Organic fertilizers are made of natural substances like manure, compost and fish emulsion. The term "organic" refers to using non-synthetic materials in their production. Synthetic fertilizers include chemicals used in industrial processes. Synthetic fertilizers are used widely in agriculture as they supply nutrients quickly and efficiently to plants without the need for laborious preparation. Synthetic fertilizers are dangerous for the environment as well as human health. In addition, they require large amounts of energy and water to produce. Due to runoff, synthetic fertilizers can pollute both groundwater as well as surface waters. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are several types of organic fertilizers:

* Manure is created when livestock eat foods containing nitrogen (a nutrient for plants). It's made of bacteria and enzymes which break down the waste to simple compounds that can be taken by plants.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, boron, molybdenum, chlorine, and carbon. It is extremely porous and holds water well.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It dissolves fats and oils in a similar way to soap. It also contains trace elements, phosphorous and nitrogen.

* Seaweed extract - A concentrated solution of minerals from kelp and red algae. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano - excrement from seabirds, bats, reptiles, and amphibians. It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as sodium, magnesium, sulfate and chloride.

* Blood Meal, the remains from slaughtered animals. It contains protein, which makes it useful for feeding poultry and other animals. It also contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and trace minerals.

Combine equal parts of compost, manure and/or fish-emulsion to make organic fertilizer. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t have access, you can mix one ingredient with the other. If you have only access to the fish oil emulsion, then you can combine 1 part fish emulsion and 2 parts compost.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. You should spread about one quarter cup of the fertilizer per square foot. To see signs of new growth, you'll need more fertilizer each two weeks.
